Over the past decade Superheroes have exploded as a genre, they are everywhere, big screen, small screen, books and what all. You just name a medium and you have it.
Inu Yashiki isn’t a Superhero manga but this is what a Superhero should be like. It probably has the worst origin scenario possible, like a comet falls and boom powers but the story which follows it is just quite amazing.
When you imagine a Superhero, you imagine him fighting monsters or a certain kind of evil humans which are way too overpowered. For we know all our heroes or most of our heroes are brainiacs *coughs* Deadpool *coughs* but did they ever worked on solving biggest human problems say incurable diseases like cancer. Just to be clear I am quoting popular heroes here, just imagine how much good can Batman do if he worked that way. Okay I guess you get what I am trying to say.
Coming back to Inu Yashiki, the manga follows the life of Inuyashiki Ichiro, an elderly, friendless man with an uncaring family. When he learns that he has only three months to live, he realizes that the only one who will miss him is his dog. After he and a teenager are struck by a mysterious explosion in a public park, hinted to be of extraterrestrial origin, his body is replaced by an incredibly powerful, but still outwardly human, mechanical body. He uses his newly acquired power for the betterment of humanity.
Inu Yashiki is written by Hiroya Oku, the same guy who gave us the amazing Gantz. So you probably know the amount of violence and gore you’ll can expect from this. It’s a dark, sci-fi action series which interestingly stars a old salaryman as a protagonist.
While the series itself looks fabulous the thing that pulled me inside this series is it’s unusual setting and an interesting storyline. Although this series isn’t for everybody but say if you’ll liked Breaking Bad and if you’ll like darker and more mature Manga you will surely enjoy this.
