Channing Tatum is all set to join the X-Men/Fox cinematic universe as Gambit but that’s not all, he also confirms that the Gambit Movie is an origin story.
I figure this version will pretty much wipe out the one played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, just as Ryan Reynolds’ new version of Deadpool blows away his first turn at the merc in Origins.
We probably might not see Channing in the X-Men movie hitting on May 2016 but as far as the solo films go, he said in the interview with Empire that the first script is done, and they are taking a different route with the origin.
“Josh Zetumer just turned in the first draft of the script, and it’s killer. None of us were sure how he was going to deal with the X-Men world. But we’re going to be changing some of the tropes of these movies. It’s always about saving the world (Laughs), but maybe we’re going to shift things a little bit. There’s so many ways you can take [an origin story]. You could do it like Batman Begins, or a different take and go the Guardians of the Galaxy route. All I can say is, I’m super excited.”
As far as they don’t completely mess the origin I am in for that. I mean Gambit has a kind of a deep origin story. Unlike any other hero it includes many interesting elements.
Many times I think Fox should take cues from Marvel but this time I think they should stick to the comic roots. As we all know that Marvel has now made it a habit to not follow its comic book stories, take for instance the ultron’s origin in the comic — it was a project of Ant Man but in the movie Iron Man makes the cut with it.
2016 is shaping up to be a big year for Fox and its X-Men franchise, not only do we get X-Men: Apocalypse and the long-awaited Deadpool, but also Gambit. Fox is yet to find a director for the movie still the movie is set to release on October 7, 2016.
