Wolverine to Die in Marvel’s New Comic Series
Yup, you heard it right! Marvel is going to kill Wolverine. I know this sounds weird but yes he is actually going to die. Everyone’s favorite clawed mutant dies in the a new four-part storyline this month. The new series is titles Death of Wolverine and is written by Charles Soule, obviously many fans are outraged by this.
The writer pointed that he might remain dead for a long time, at least for two years.
“The idea is not to bring him back,” Charles said. “This isn’t one of those stories where he’s back in two weeks. The point is to tell an awesome ending story for Wolverine. I’m not gonna say he will never be brought back.
“I’m very involved in all the Wolverine-related discussions at Marvel and the thing we have not talked about at all is how to bring him back, and I’m involved in discussions for stuff out into 2016 at this point.”
If I remember Marvel has not killed any major character, except for Ultimate Spider-man’s Peter Parker, the supporting cast dies now and then so that’s not a big deal. If you look at this the other way though, there is no golden rule which prescribes that one must not kill the major character. After the Game of Thrones has started this killing spree it just feels normal.
Marvel is also doing many major things which you might already know, like Captain America is now a African-America or that lady Thor thing but that’s in the comics world. They are also doing many unusual things in the cinematic universe, like that Ant-Man movie, I never saw it coming.
For starters nobody knows how Wolverine dies until the comic comes out.
“You’re gonna be entering into a world without Wolverine. That affects not only his teammates, but also the Marvel Universe at large. We’ve got a lot of things in the works already.” Charles said. “He’s reflecting on his own life as he’s reflecting on his own death. We wanted to have the reader do that at the same time. In each issue, we’re focusing on a different aspect, or a different quintessential Wolverine.”
How long will we not have Wolverine around? Is this like those deaths in comic book series where a certain death is to bring its franchise back on the edge like they did with Superman? Only time will tell what happens next!
“We have a plan, obviously, as to what we can do to replace him – either physically or spiritually – in the Marvel universe. But it’ll be fans who decide what works or not. Time will tell. We’re about to find out.”
