Lonely Alien, A Sweet Relatively Subtle Sci-Fi Manga
I just recently catched up with many ongoing series like Attack on Titan but while they might be good some series among them just don’t get the spotlight they deserve. One such ongoing manga series is Lonely Alien or explicitly Invading the World All Alone (Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku).
Lonely Alien isn’t like what the sounds like, sure there is an alien who was send on Earth all alone to invade it but that’s not the complete picture.
The series revolves around Kouichi who is about to begin with his high school his only aim till moment is to to help continue his grandfather’s coffee shop. But on the very first day of his school, a strange girl wearing an eerie mask tells him that she has come to take his life. She tells him that the heart beating within his chest is her own, and that she is an alien invader who has come to take over the world. Although this isn’t the complete picture but everything beyond this point would be considered a spoiler.
No matter how serious the plot sounds the atmosphere in the overall series is surely a bit relaxed. That’s maybe because of the carefully crafted character development or the fine writing.
The story is sweet, overpowered and sad, quite subtle too.
Talking about writing, I think Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku or Lonely Alien is quite finely written, I mean I never stumbled upon something that had such stellar passage sure much of the fine works get lost in translation but this kinda nailed it. Even the characters are well showcased, nothing feels overexaggerated except for the fights (Yes there are fights like big fights) but that again is sort of expected from it.
The artwork of Lonely Alien is another area where it shines, Yet I think the alien monster designs are bit out of place but beyond that the character designs the backgrounds all look fabulous, very pleasing to the eyes. Even the covers of the volumes look fabulous.
I know many will drop this series just after reading the first volume or a first few chapters because till that point it feels kinda generic but as the story progresses you kinda lust for more, so hold on to it. If you are already reading Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku or Lonely Alien and want something similar I will suggest you’ll to read Ano Natsu de Matteru which is too short but something worth checking out too.
Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku or Lonely Alien is written by Ogawa Maiko (Story & Art) and is something anybody could read and get instantly hooked up with, probably because of it’s diverse themes.
