I Finally Watched Suicide Squad And I Have Mixed Feelings About It
When the film scored a horrible 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, I figured I was in the clear — Okay, bad movie, don’t have to see it, but still I went ahead and saw it.
Well I am no critic but I think I was quite entertained with the way the movie was. Although I can say it wasn’t that great, I really think it was the most diverse Superhero movie till date.
But the question here is, why do so many people hate it? Well, I think the hype generated by the movie and the way Warner Bros panicked after Batman V Superman were the main reasons for its failure.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, A key concern for Warners executives was that Suicide Squad didn’t deliver on the fun, edgy tone promised in the strong teaser trailer for the film. So while Ayer pursued his original vision, Warners set about working on a different cut, with an assist from Trailer Park, the company that had made the teaser.
Many folks hoped that Suicide Squad could’ve been the Guardians of the Galaxy of the DCEU but the sadly it wasn’t. Although it made more money in it’s opening weekend but that I think was solely due to the hype.
I felt the actors did a fine job of portraying the respective characters. Yes! even the Joker’s performance was good. The thing that sucked was the fact that these characters got terrible introductions. I mean except for Deadshot and Harley Quinn other characters were sorta rushed with their introductions. Meanwhile, Croc and Katana don’t get enough lines or plot points to ever rise above the gross stereotypes.
The music in the movie was really something which I will jam the entire week. It wasn’t just there for the sake of it, but thankfully it also fitted the atmosphere around it.
Yet, even after all it’s flaws I really enjoyed Suicide Squad. You can call me biased or whatever heck you want but I think it was way better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
