Even Without Batman, ‘Gotham’ is Still A Good Show
Well many people have heard about this TV series that’s been around for a while now and is making quite a buzz. The show I’m referring to is Gotham. The name of the series reveals itself that it is related to our much loved superhero Batman, Isn’t it? But let me tell you all that there is no Batman yet in the series! Yes you read that correct; Batman isn’t yet in the show because the show’s main story is based on pre-Batman situations in Gotham city.
The show’s cast is something of a treat for fans even when Batman isn’t yet on the show. The cast for this show includes actors such as Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a Penguin, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle a.k.a Cat, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, John Doman as Carmine Falcone. There have been many recurring characters on the show too. But have a look once again at the characters the cast members are playing, yes! Those characters sound familiar don’t they? All the characters are well known characters from the Batman comic universe. That gives us a sense that yes we are in Gotham city and not some random city with crime.
So about the show, Well first when I saw the trailer for the show I literally had Goosebumps all over the body. I mean who wouldn’t right? Fans love everything related on Batman. The trailer showed us the corruption, the politics in Gotham city when it was the age of the Mafia and what effects it had on Gotham City Police Dept. It showed all the characters which will appear in the show, at that moment it was amazing to see.
So now it’s been 12 episodes and a few episodes worked and a few didn’t, but that’s according to me. We had a pretty great start to the series with the pilot episode, in the first episode itself Thomas and Martha Wayne are murdered and we have an orphan Bruce Wayne, and Jim promises to catch whoever murdered them. This is what we had to see of course, we also saw characters like Fish Mooney, Oswald Cobblepot, Carmine Falcone and Alfred too. The makers decided to give us all the characters in the first episode like a big scoop of ice-cream. All the episodes showcased that the detectives go on the crime scene but between that also get tangled in the politics and crimes of the Mafia families. And criminals some we know some we don’t, that’s good though. We also saw Gang Wars between the two big families which were amazing to watch. The recent episodes also took us inside Arkham Asylum and gave us some idea what the situation is. We saw young Bruce Wayne training to become strong and fearless which is good, Selina Kyle helping him. Oswald Cobblepot making a place for himself in this Infamous City. And also characters like Riddler, Poison Ivy, these characters are yet to emerge as Villains but I hope to see them soon though.
The main Spotlight of the show I would definitely give to the Penguin, I mean I really love his character the most in the whole series, I have to say that he is the most intelligent guy on the show yet, the actor does a phenomenal job in portraying the famous Villain. Also I have to give one to the FOX, The Gotham City looks spectacular that is in the early 80’s era. If you haven’t yet watched it I would sure recommend you to give it a try.
Gotham airs every Monday at 8 on FOX.
