John Wick Director David Leitch, Frontrunner to Helm Deadpool 2
Tim Miller, the man who brought us Deadpool is no longer working on the sequel due to “creative differences” with star/producer Ryan Reynolds. With Miller gone, the search for a new director is underway, and reports suggest John Wick director David Leitch is currently the top choice. Although nothing is final just yet.
Miller wanted a stylish, much more big-budget, expensive film, Ryan Reynolds wanted a “scrappier” movie with raunchy comedy, much like the first film. This basically means that the sequel will be just like the first, one no matter who the director is. I dunno about Humor but David Leitch’s John Wick seemed like a big budget action flick and it had elements of scrappiness, so like best of both worlds but I can’t say much about the humor part. He has made films that are intense and filled with action but not anything that that had excess of humor.
While Variety initially reported that Leitch is the frontrunner, Deadline reports that the studio is still meeting with other potential directors, and no official offer to Leitch has been made.
It should be noted that Leitch served as the action coordinator on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which marked Reynolds’ first appearance as Deadpool (Yup, that disaster).
Honestly, I don’t care who directs the flick if he delivers some fine excellence on the big screen. I mean, anyone can unless it’s M. Night Shyamalan.
