I Am Genuinely Excited About These Anime Shows From Summer 2016
I must say, the upcoming summer 2016 Anime season has many good shows. The reason I am excited about some of these shows is not because of the plot. I’ve read the manga for some of these shows and they are good if not great. Although I doubt if they’ll stay faithful to the source material. Still I wish they turn out to be amazing because they are. I think Summer is the time when many good anime shows air. Anyways here are the shows from the summer 2016 Anime season for which I am genuinely excited.
One of my regular reads, I was seriously excited when the Anime adaptation was announced. How would you feel if you are made to relive your High School days. The time when there were no worries about tomorrow and a time when everything was merry and cheerful. Well that’s what happens here. A guy called Kaizaki Arata, a 27-year-old jobless man, is having a hard time being an adult and after failing numerous interviews he meets a guy who offers him a drug that can change his appearance to 17-years-old and to become a subject in an unusual experiment for one year.
This anime needs no introduction. Being a
remake continuation of the 90’s Berserk anime I really wish they don’t screw up. If everything plays well this might become the hottest show of the Summer. BTW for those living under a rock. Berserk centers on the characters of Guts, a lone mercenary, and Griffith, the leader of a mercenary band called the Band of the Hawk. Themes of isolation, camaraderie, and the question of whether humanity is fundamentally good or evil pervade the story, as it explores both the best and worst of human nature.
Rather an unusual addition but honestly I really enjoyed the source material. It follows a girl who gets a letter from her future self asking to prevent Kakeru Naruse, the new transfer student, from sinking into depression and taking his own life. I just finished the original source material and it was a quite relaxing read.
Amaama to Inazuma
Math teacher Kōhei Inuzuka is a widow with a young daughter named Tsugumi. Inuzuka isn’t adept in the kitchen but with the help of his student Kotori Iida and his daughter, he embarks on a culinary adventure. It will be one of those shows which will be just a delight to watch.
Barakamon is one of the beautiful anime I have seen. Handa Kun might probably follow the same path. It is kind of a prequel to Barakamon, better said as a spinoff. Following Handa’s life in High School as a famous calligrapher and his ever-growing fan base, even though all he wants is a quiet life. It is a different approach from Barakamon and I haven’t touched this manga but let’s just say I have faith in the studio.
Mob Psycho 100
From the mangaka of One Punch Man comes another sizzling tale, Mob Psycho 100. The series follows Kageyama Shigeo an average middle school boy with psychic abilities. He could bend spoons and lift objects with his mind from a young age, but he slowly began to withhold from using his abilities in public due to the negative attention he kept receiving. Now, the only thing he wants is to live just like others, but a barrage of trouble comes to him.
BTW, these are all new shows. Yes, even Berserk as it’s a remake of the original anime. Beyond these I am also excited about Makoto Shinkai’s upcoming movie Kimi no Na wa & KyoAni’s movie Koe no Katachi. Both of these movies will release around July-August in Japan and hopefully internationally.
